The UK's Our Dogs newspaper runs an annual award for the top performing show dogs during a calendar year. Points are awarded for wins at shows during that year, they're added up at the end and then the most successful dog and puppy of the year are announced. There are also awards for the top stud dog and brood bitch, i.e. the dogs whose offspring have been the most successful in the ring. The 2023 results have been announced and the Portuguese Podengo winners are:
Top Dog: Plushcourt Guessing (Betty Judge)
Top Puppy: Stormwitch Magic Melody (Diana Curtis)
Top Stud: Plushcourt Godspeed (Betty Judge)
Top Brood Bitch: Plushcourt Gucci (Betty Judge) *
Top Breeder: Mrs B A Judge
* NB The result was originally announced as Odesseia De Viamonte At Morialta (Anna & Simon Sampson). However, Our Dogs subsequently revised the result and decided that with the dogs being equal on points, Gucci pipped Ode on a tie-breaker. This was determined by looking at the points scored by each of their progeny.
Congratulations to all the winners!
You can find a full list of breed winners on the Our Dogs website. Select the relevant category from the 'More Links' tab in the menu bar at the top of the homepage:
