Huge congratulations to Diana Curtis (Stormwitch) whose Tink won in Ireland on 30 September and in doing so, earned the title International Champion. She is only the 2nd UK-based Portuguese Podengo to achieve this, after her kennel-mate Peanut. Tink's full title now is: Ger/Bel/BeNeLux/NL/INT CH Stormwitch Carrousel Tulpe WW'18. Well done Tink!
Many thanks to everyone who submitted a photo for possible inclusion in our 2024 calendar. We've sifted through a lot of really great podengo pictures and after a lot of deliberation, selected 12 that will feature in the calendar.
It's currently with our printers and once we've got it back, we'll announce details about how to order a copy.
Critiques are an explanation by the judge about why they placed the dogs in each class in the order they did. They allow the judge to outline the virtues and weaknesses of the entry individually and as a whole. Judging regulations require judges to provide written critiques on 1st and 2nd placed dogs in each breed class at all championship and open shows. These must be submitted within a reasonable amount of time following the show.
The Clube do Podengo Português has published the full results from the 2023 Monográfica. Additionally, there's a link to a Facebook page by Ana Catarina Alves, who provided some wonderful photographs of the event.

The UK's Our Dogs newspaper runs an annual award for the top performing show dogs during a calendar year. Points are awarded for wins at shows during that year, they're added up at the end and then the most successful dog and puppy of the year are announced. There are also awards for the top stud dog and brood bitch, i.e. the dogs whose offspring have been the most successful in the ring. The 2022 results have been announced and the Portuguese Podengo winners are:
Top Dog: Morialta Ferreira (Anna & Simon Sampson & Margaret Brooks)
Top Puppy: Plushcourt Bear Witness (Betty Judge)
Top Stud: Plushcourt Godspeed (Betty Judge)
Top Brood Bitch: Odesseia De Viamonte At Morialta (Anna & Simon Sampson)
Top Breeder: Mrs B A Judge
Congratulations to all the winners!
The show is open to all podengos and owners - you don't have to be an Association member to participate. Whether you're a new or experienced exhibitor, you'll be made very welcome. If you're simply interested in the breed and want to find out more about it or you want to see what showing is all about, come along for a friendly introduction. Spectators are very welcome.
We've unearthed 2 copies of our 2023 calendar. If you're interested in purchasing one of these - and what discerning podenguiro wouldn't want one? - please email the webmaster for details: webmaster@nppa.org.uk
